Bedtime with C.S. Lewis

Last night we started reading The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe to CG. I think she’s going to like it. Here at almost three, she seems to have a really active imagination. I never read the Narnia books growing up. I kinda wish I had. Heather and I started to read them a few years ago, but we never finished. I think we read The Magician’s Nephew and about half of The Lion…. This time, with CG, we started with TLTWATW, partly because we had heard the original order had TMN coming a lot later. Makes sense. I heard someone mention that the more recent editions with TMN starting the series is like watching Star Wars: Episode 1 before watching the “middle” three. TMN just gives away too much of the back story up front.

Anyway, we are also looking forward to the movie of TLTWATW coming soon. Hopefully it will be good. I believe WETA is doing the effects.

Yes, I would recommend that you read them in published order rather than chronological order. I know some would argue, but this is much the order which I prefer. I didn't like The Magician's Nephew all that much the first time I read it. I think actually the first one I ever read was The Last Battle, which tells about the end of Narnia.

[The Horse and His Boy was my favorite]

We never got past the first book, but we did finish it. We'll need to pick them up again soon...
